Saranam: a step toward equal palliative care
saranam is a philanthropic initiative of The Sheltr Foundation — a not-for-profit grassroots organisation registered as a Sec 8 company under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
saranam was conceptualised to relieve serious health-related suffering by creating access to integrated palliative care for those with chronic and life-limiting conditions, the elderly, and the disadvantaged.
Less than 4% of those who need palliative care in India get access to it. saranam addresses this through a network of physicians, nurses, physiotherapists, and counsellors delivering home care, OPD, day care, and in-patient services.
saranam is now operational and delivering home care services to patients of Kidwai Memorial Hospital and KC General Hospital in Bangalore — two of the city’s largest public hospitals serving underserved populations.
TEF supports the setup of palliative care and hospice facilities, and the ambulance network that enables home care to reach patients who cannot travel.
